My introduction to Ferndown Fitness was similar to that of many of our members. Coming into middle age I found I was putting on extra weight and my fitness level was not what it should be.
I had been very fit and active when I was younger but a chronic back problem and worsening asthma meant I had all but stopped exercising. Although I had been told I would really benefit from doing more exercise, I could no longer do the activities I used to enjoy. I decided to join Ferndown Fitness to see if it might be what I needed; it was! I was able to exercise at a pace that was right for me in a friendly, supportive environment and I soon found my fitness levels dramatically improving … and I was finally shifting those extra pounds.
After being a member of Ferndown Fitness for three years I was looking for a career change when I found out the owners wanted to sell up and move on. I was excited by the idea of running a business that had had such a positive impact on my life. So, for that and many other reasons, I decided to take on the gym in 2019. It was a big change for me but I’ve thrived on the challenge. There is so much satisfaction in being able to provide a much needed service to the community. Many of our members tell me Ferndown Fitness is a vital lifeline for their fitness and wellbeing.
Running Ferndown Fitness takes up most of my time but I also enjoy watching science fiction on television, and countryside walks with my dog Amber – who can often be found hanging out with me at the club.
